Chairman Speech In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
All praise is due to Allah, who hath created, and further, given order and proportion, who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, mercy to the worlds and a guiding light for believers.
Honorable members of the State Council,
May the Peace, Mercy and Blessing of Allah be Upon you. May Allah bless your times. At the beginning of the 2nd session of the 2nd annual session from the 6th term of the State Council. The main part of which will be devoted to discuss the draft of the General Budget for 2017 and the expanded report of the Economic Committee on that.
We commend the Government’s efforts and procedures to reduce the effects of oil prices’ reductions and the consequences, at the same time, we applaud the efforts of the The Supreme Council for Planning in adopting “Tanfeeth” Program and community dialogues; to promote economic diversification in the Sultanate. The named program will be interested through its first phase in sectors of manufacturing, tourism, logistics, finance, innovative funding, labor market and employment. We wish all the best for those who stand for this project.
The overall efforts exerted by all other parties in the country, which we hope will be translated into effective work programs during the coming period. This will have a good impact on the development process in the Sultanate, especially as the initial indicators show the commitment of all parties who are involved in the concerned program from both, public and private sectors, and that it presents their interest in the projects and initiatives to be implemented during the next five years.
Our country, thankfully, has many natural, human and strategic assets and resources, which qualifies it to overcome such conditions and to move to the future with confidence, strength and power. We in the State Council are confident that all the competent authorities in the government, private and civil sectors have a great deal of responsibility that makes them pay attention to the investment of these elements, and employ them to optimize employment for the benefit of our homeland and citizens in general, and thus to diversify and develop sustainable sources of income that will reduce the total dependence on oil in the future. We are guided by His Majesty’s motives to diversify the sources of income, and the interest in qualifying and training national human resources to take the lead in the process of economic diversification in various sectors such as trade, industry, tourism, agriculture, fisheries, transport and mining.
In conclusion, we call upon Allah Almighty to perpetuate His grace to our country, and to protect His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, as well as entrust His care to all of us and help us all in serving our beloved nation, Oman.
