Delegation of Foundation officer course, organised by MOD’s Engineering Services visit State Council

The delegation of the Foundation officer course, organized by the Ministry of Defense’s (MOD) Engineering Services that visited the State Council today were received by the Council members, Hon. Khamis Said Saif Al Sulaimi and Hon.Sheikh Nasser bin Saeed Al Haddabi.
 
They welcomed the officers and highlighted the uniqueness of the Sultanate’s shura experience, which stems from Islamic sharia, based on the authentic Omani heritage.   
The Council members noted the high interest of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, in developing the shura process to reach it to the present mature level of practice, thereby effectively contributing to national action. 
They discussed the stages involved in the processing of draft laws and the role of the Council in submitting proposals and studies relating to various economic and social fields. 
Following this, the delegation were briefed with a visual presentation outlining the functions and competencies of the Council, presented by Altaf Bint Omar Al Marhoon, Assistant Secretary General for Information and Research Center.
She addressed the organizational structure of the Council, the special provisions of the Basic Statute of the State that refer to the State Council, stipulate  the number of its members, the appointing authority, the categories from which members are selected and the term of membership, as well as and its legislative and regulatory powers.
Following this, the delegation viewed a documentary film illustrating the important aspects of the Council and concluded the visit after a tour of the premises to note its various facilities.
