02 May 2017

The Council’s Bureau approves presentation of proposal "development of health promotion policies", following discussions today.
The discussions at the State Council Bureau meeting today fixated on the proposal of the Social Committee titled, "Policies to promote health (non-communicable diseases)". The 8th Bureau meeting, chaired by H.E.Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri, the State Council Chairman hosted Hon.Dr.Hamad bin Sulaiman bin Salim Al Salmi, Head of the Social Committee and Ahmed Al Wahaibi, the Rapporteur of the Committee, for in-depth discussions. Hon.Dr.Al Salmi and Ahmed highlighted the critical justifications related to increase in negative environmental effects, which aggravates chronic and dangerous diseases in society and negatively affects the economy and sustainable development, owing to the depletion of the state resources (material and human) in combating these diseases. It is also underlined the low participation of the private sector and civil society institutions in health promotion. The Bureau approved the proposal and decided to refer it for discussion at the next Regular Session of the Council. The Bureau commended the efforts exerted by the Committee in enabling the specialized opinions obtained by hosting the stakeholders in the health sector. The seventh and the eight Regular sessions held on 26 and 27 April were evaluated. The Bureau also reviewed a follow-up report on the implementation of the decisions taken at its previous meeting, as well as a report on the activities of the Committees during the period between the previous Bureau meeting and the present meeting.
