State Council Chairman receives the President of the of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

State Council Chairman, H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri met today in his office Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU), Secretary of the Committee on Foreign Relations Committee and Economic and Trade Committee of the Mexican Federal house of Representatives. At the beginning of the interview, the State Council Chairman welcomed Gabriela Cuevas Barron and wished her that the visit to Sultanate would enable her to meet the desired goals. The State Council Chairman stressed the importance of the visit in opening new horizons for the relations between the Sultanate and the United States of Mexico, especially in the fields of economy, investment and tourism in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries. He pointed out in this regard the Sultanate's great potential and promising features.
He highlighted the role played by the IPU and its efforts to promote peace, empower youth and achieve sustainable development through meaning dialogue and constructive parliamentary work. Further on, he pointed out that the Sultanate is actively participating in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its various organs and committees. This, he added is in the interest of strengthening all efforts to maintain international peace and promote understanding and harmony between States and peoples. During the interview, ways of developing relations between the Sultanate and Mexico were reviewed, in addition to exploring the prospects for cooperation between the Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Gabriela Baron said that the IPU appreciates the great role played by the Sultanate in laying the foundations for dialogue, supporting the stability of the region and strengthening international peace and security, and noted the participation of the Sultanate in the work and activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. She looked forward to further steps to consolidate the Omani-Mexican relations and expand the areas of cooperation between them, especially in the economic and tourism aspects, pointing to the importance of the role of parliamentary diplomacy and the media in the development of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. Her Excellency also wished the meeting of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at its 140th session, to be held in the State of Qatar next April. The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairperson of the State Council, the Secretary-General of the Council and the Deputy Chairman of Majlis A’Shura.
