Oman, Sudan explore ways to strengthen ties

The Omani-Sudanese talks underlined the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in various fields, held on Monday, in Khartoum as part of the current visit by H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council and his delegation. The Omani side was headed by H.E.Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri and the Sudani side by Dr. Omar Suleiman Waneis. Dr. Omar Suleiman Waneis welcomed H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri and expressed his pleasure that the visit coincides with the celebrations of the Sudan Independence Day, and hoped that it would contribute to furthering development of distinguished relations between the two countries, and expand their areas of cooperation.
He said the Council of States is looking forward to deepening its cooperation with the State Council through the exchange of knowledge and experience for the benefit of both councils. H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri expressed his thanks and appreciation for the warm hospitality, and underscored the good relations between the Sultanate and Sudan and noted in this regard the Sultanate's keenness to develop further cooperation with Sudan and widen its scope of cooperation. The State Council Chairman said that the Shura march in the Sultanate has witnessed remarkable developments since the beginning of the Blessed Renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and pointed out that within the Council of Oman-both the State Council and Majlis A’Shura play an important role in national action through the exercise of its powers and competencies. Later in the day, H.E.Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri and his delegation, met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof.Ibrahim Ahmed Omar at the Council headquarters in Omdurman. In course of the meeting, both sides reviewed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern. H.E.Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri, also met the Foreign Minister, Al Dardiri Mohamed Ahmed. During the meeting, he reviewed the strong relations between the Sultanate and Sudan and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance it. The Sudanese Foreign Minister underscored the importance of the visit in opening new avenues of cooperation between the two countries and stressed his country's keenness to work with the Sultanate to expand fields of cooperation. He hailed the vital role the Sultanate plays in serving the Arab and Islamic nations and its efforts to maintain security and stability within the region and its efforts to maintain international peace and security. For his part, The Council Chairman expressed his happiness to visit Sudan, pointing out that the visit comes within the framework of brotherly relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Sudan. He briefed the Minister about the Shura march in the Sultanate and the progress it achieved in light of the generous support of His Majesty. Following this, the delegation visited the National Museum of Sudan.
