"Memory of the Council" released  under the patronage of the State Council’s Chairman

The State Council on Tuesday launched the commemorative book "Memory of the Council", under the patronage of HE.Dr.Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Manthri, State Council Chairman, in the presence of several honorable members and the Secretary General of the Council.

 


HE.Dr. Khalid bin Salem Al-Saidi, Secretary-General of the State Council, in his speech called the “Memory of the Council”, a vital project that documents efficiently a comprehensive and integrated reference to the crucial two decades of the State Council. It chronicles a key era of its participation in national work and its comprehensive development process that spans over its six terms and is a clear affirmation of successful institutional practice of the Shura and a clear embodiment of its development based on the supreme support received from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. 

 

HE.Dr.Khalid highlighted the increasing importance of documentation in today’s time, role in preserving creative productions and information in all mediums such as documents, books, images, audio and video recordings and electronic texts. 

He pointed out that documentation symbolises the Council’s memory, a source of information for researchers, forms a reliable observer of activities and actions that connects the present and past, and paves the way for the future aligned to a clear vision and sound planning for achieving continued achievements.

 

Adding further, he said that the implementation of the "Memory of the Council" accrues from the recognition accorded by the Council Chairman to parliamentary documentation in providing an integrated and documented recording of its activities, as he has conviction in its role in enhancing national memory and preserving it for future generations. 

 

The project, he said is a product of resolute efforts of two years by several officials and employees of the council through the practice of scientific and modern methodology.

 

HE.Dr. Khalid highlighted the most notable feature of the project, which is the use of technology to convert paper documents to electronic, and the creation of a database of the draft laws and studies prepared by the Council, based on the latest criteria for classification and indexing.

 

The "Memory of the Council" denotes a qualitative shift in the documentary work of the Council, as it presents extensive information in thirteen parts and eighty-eight volumes on six hundred topics in various fields. It includes - the Royal Decrees related to the Council of Oman and the Royal Speeches of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said delivered before the Council of Oman, and the periodic reports submitted to His Majesty. In addition, it includes the Internal Work Regulations, the State Council Regulations, the minutes of the ordinary sittings, the minutes of the joint sessions between the State Council and Majlis A’Shura and reports of the General Secretariat, draft laws, state budgets, five-year development plans, studies and reports as well as pictorial memory. 

 

In conclusion, he expressed thanks and appreciation to the Council Chairman for committing to the project support and care, as well as the members of the main committee and the team who supervised the completion of the project. 

 

HE.Dr.Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al-Manthri, Chairman of the State Council, launched the "Memory of the Council" book, and the audience watched a film about the stages of completion of the project and highlighted its contents.
