Culture, Media and Tourism Committee reviews proposals for investment in traditional Omani villages

The Culture, Media and Tourism Committee of the State Council today hosted officials from Bawareq Nizwa International Investment Company, Omran and Qatar National Library, as part of the committee's study on "Investment in Traditional Omani heritage villages to attract tourism”.
 


The seventh meeting of the first annual session of the seventh term, headed by Hon.Dr Aisha bint Hamad bin Said al Darmakiyah was held in the presence of the honorable members of the committee, and employees of the General Secretariat, to discuss several topics.
 
The discussions dealt with mechanisms and ways of convincing citizens to restore their property for conservation, types of support from competent government agencies and shared personal experiences to take advantage of the tourist interests and economic benefit accruing from restoring villages  and the visions and proposals for the investment in the them.
 
During its meeting, the committee hosted Zaher bin Sulaiman Al-Zakwani, General Manager of Bawareq Nizwa International for Investment (SAOC), Khalid bin Mohammed Mirza Al Ajami, Director of Projects for Omran, Abdul Wahid bin Abdul Aziz al Farsi, Director of Business Integration at Omran, Dr.Haitham bin Najeem Al-Abri, Senior Researcher in Historical research at Qatar National Library and Ali bin Hammoud al-Mahrouqi, Researcher in urban heritage at the Qatar National Library.
 
It is worth mentioning that the study aims to revive the old Omani villages, highlight their social and cultural role, preserve their architecture and the rehabilitate Omani work force in the field of restoration, maintenance and operation and create an investment vision for Omani villages to contribute to diversification of sources of income.
