Culture, Media and Tourism Committee reviews views of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture

The Culture, Media and Tourism Committee of the State Council  held its tenth annual meeting on Tuesday,  headed by the Committee Head, Hon.Dr Aisha bint Hamad bin Said al Darmakiyah, in the presence of the honorable  members of the committee, and a number of employees of the General Secretariat.

 

 


The committee hosted several officials of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, as part of the committee's studies on "Omani Digital Cultural Content” and “Investment in Traditional Omani heritage villages to attract tourism”.

 

The committee reviewed with officials of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture various aspects of its two studies.

Relating to the study titled "Omani digital cultural content", it addressed the mechanism adopted by the Ministry of Cultural for marketing Sultanate culturally and follow-up of presentation and cultural content and joint efforts to document and market the cultural product. It also discussed the cooperation between the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and other governmental institutions, in addition to the challenges, it faces in organizing and marketing cultural content and its vision to overcome these challenges.

 

The committee also discussed the themes of the study “Investment in Traditional Omani heritage villages to attract tourism” and the discussions touched on the legislation and laws that constitute a barrier in the restoration of the neighbourhoods. It also discussed the role of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in the field of preserving the authenticity of the neighbourhoods, the future investment vision of post-restoration, in addition to plans for the development of the neighbourhoods.

 

The Ministry of Heritage and Culture delegation included Sultan bin Saif Al Bakri, Director General of Antiquities, Issa bin Saleh al-Haddabi, Head of the Department of Historical Landmarks Department,  Badriya Bint Mubarak Al-Busaidia, Head of  the Department of Rehabilitation and Development of Sites, Walid bin Sultan al-Muzaini, Museum Supervisor of the Salut  Archaeological Museum and Park Project  and Ibrahim bin Saif Bani Uraba, Head of the Department for the Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Committee was briefed on the new topics on its agenda and took appropriate decisions on them, before concluding the meeting.
