PDO officials hosted at State Council

The Sub-Committee of the Social Committee of the State Council charged with studying the review of the Maritime Pollution Control Law issued by Royal Decree No. 34/74 on Thursday hosted a number of PDO officials to explore their views on the proposal to review materials.
The law is compared to the provisions of the Environmental Protection Law issued by the Royal Decree No. 114/2001, benefiting from international and national efforts and updates the laws related to marine pollution to reformulate and amend the articles of the law and to come up with appropriate recommendations and proposals that contribute to strengthening the monitoring Marine pollution. The committee discussed at the meeting, headed by Hon. Dr. Hamad bin Sulaiman al-Salami, the Head of the committee in the presence of the honorable members of the committee. The company's officials discussed several topics related to the study, including the company's efforts in the field of marine pollution diagnosis, awareness programs, regulatory actions, coordination and data efficiency, measurement and institutional readiness tools, strategies, legislation and laws, as well as a review of proposals, scenarios and practical latitude in reducing marine pollution. The committee also discussed with the PDO officials the extent of the marine pollution incidents in the Sultanate and the risks resulting from them, the role of NGOs and civil society organizations in reducing their risks. It also discussed the adequacy of national legislations in force relating to maritime pollution or their need for amendment, the proposed legislation in this regard, relevant international and regional partnerships, standards, requirements and penalties for companies operating in the maritime sector, the most important challenges in this area and the proposed solutions.
