Technology and Innovation Com. of the State Council hosts TRA and PDO officials

The Technology and Innovation Committee of the State Council hosted several officials of TRA and Petroleum Development of Oman, as part of the committee’s study titled “Draft law on investment in technology and innovation” on Wednesday.
The Technology and Innovation Committee reviewed the role of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority
(TRA) in enhancing cybersecurity and the efforts of the Petroleum Development Company (PDO) in investment in technology and innovation.
The ninth meeting of the first annual session of the seventh term headed by Hon
.Dr Maryam bint Abdullah bin Rajab Al Awadiyah, Committee Head, held discussions in the presence of the honorable committee members, General Secretariat employees and the officials of TRA and PDO.
The committee discussed with TRA officials, several topics related to its study “Draft law on investment in technology and innovation” , including: the tasks carried out by TRA in relation to cybersecurity in terms of procedures, technology, manpower, legislation, strategies and regulations, as well as the practices that the Authority adopts to activate its role.
It also discussed the extent of cooperation and integration between the Authority and other institutions to activate cybersecurity, in addition to identifying the capabilities available to the Authority to activate its role in the field of comprehensive cyber security, and the proposals and visions of the authority to enhance cyber security at the national level.

TRA, Eng.Faisal bin Hamad Al-Shakili, Director of the Department of Technical Specifications Department, Dr. Hisham Faleh Tahaat, Legal Advisor, and Eng. Mahmoud bin Suleiman al-Farsi, Acting Director of Information and Communications Technology Department.
While the Technology and Innovation Committee discussed with officials of the Oman Petroleum Development Company, several subjects related to its study “Draft law on investment in technology and innovation”.
It included discussions on the status of investment in technical fields and the company's role in this field, the legislative environment governing research, development and innovation in the fields of technology, and challenges the company faces in the investment fields available to the technical sectors, including research, development and innovation.
It also discussed the legislative and practical proposals that the company considers appropriate to create an investing environment conducive for innovation in the technical fields in general and in the company’s field of business. Additionally, it discussed the methods of attracting start-ups in this area, the current and future role of the company in order to create a stimulating and supportive environment for the development of investment opportunities in the fields of technology, innovation and research and development.
The PDO delegation included: Eng. Rashid bin Ali Al Hinai, New Technology Adviser &CH and Eng. Aziz bin Khalifa al-Jahdhami, Chief contract engineer for New Technology.
