Social Com. hosts Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and human rights officials

Today, the Social Committee of the State Council hosted Issa bin Hamad Al-Azri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and several officials of the Human Rights Commission, as part of the committee’s study of the proposal “The reality of the elderly in the Sultanate”.
The Committee held its sixth meeting for the first annual session of the seventh term , headed by Hon.Walli bin Nasser bin A’mer Al Shukaili, Deputy Head of Committee in the presence of honorable members of the Committee and several Secretariat staff.
The discussions focused on the human rights axes related to the study, including: international and gulf legislations and laws specialized in protecting and caring for the elderly, and the reality of caring for this category in the Sultanate, relating national legislations and policies.
In addition, it reviewed the experiences of some Arab countries and their legislations related to the care of the elderly.
The study aims to examine the reality of international and domestic policies and legislations in the field of care and protection of the elderly and identify the efforts made by the concerned authorities of Sultanate in the field of the elderly and the programs and services provided for their care and study the appropriateness of national legislation and policies and the available social, health and economic services.
In addition, it discussed the current situation and its adequacy to meet the needs of the elderly owing to the rapid urban and population development and the development of proposals and mechanisms appropriate to bridge the legislative and legal gaps in the field of caring of this category of citizens.
