The second day of the Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament at Abu dhabi, continued to discuss its theme, 'United for shaping the future' organized by the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates and the Inter Parliamentary Union today.

The second day of the Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament at Abu dhabi, continued to discuss its theme, 'United for shaping the future' organized by the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates and the Inter Parliamentary Union on Tuesday.
Hon.Dr Suad bint Mohammed Al Lawati, State Council Vice-Chairperson, headed the State Council delegation at the Summit, which included Hon.Naashiah Al Kharousi and Hon.Rahma Al Mashrafi, State Council members with nearly 50 other women parliamentarian Speakers at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.
The Summit focused on the role that women Speakers can play in uniting parliamentarians around national and political interests to deliver sustainable prosperity and security in a rapidly changing world for present and future generations.
Following the keynote addresses, the Session 5 commenced viewing presentations on 'Governing tolerance’ and debate on management of tolerance, influencing attitudes and values through legislation and government action, role of parliament in contributing to eradicating the root causes of intolerance, which leads to violence, discrimination and terrorism.
Two parallel panel sessions included a closed roundtable discussion for women speakers of parliament. The second session was open to participation and discussed youth perspectives. Hon. Suad Al Lawati stressed the importance of a specialist in the field of vocational training for appropriate professionals to enhance their abilities and their willingness and their orientation, noting that it is applied in Oman. According to scientific studies, confirm that personality traits, lifestyle and preference influence today's generation differently from yesterday's generation who witnessed the difficulties and challenges and built infrastructure, whereas the present generation enjoys the availability of huge opportunities. She said the gap between the two generations has to be overcome through interactive communications. She also called attention to the creative and talented people to invest in creative and innovative capacity building a better future and prepare themselves for leadership roles.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Omani delegation met the President of IPU, Sabir Chaudhry and addressed a number of issues, including the status of women in the global parliaments and legislation and regulations pertaining to the global election laws, which supports access of women elected to parliament’s seats. During the meeting, she highlighted the role of Omani women in development and support that they have of His Majesty the Sultan to enable them to progress in all areas, and to ensure that she advances with the process of comprehensive national development.
The afternoon’s session 6 on ‘Transformative innovations: Opportunities and ethical dilemmas’, dealt with how parliaments address the ethical questions emerging from technological breakthroughs.
Session 7 involved discussions on how can parliaments, through legislation, government oversight and working closely with international organizations, bring about gender equality and put an end to violence against women.
A presentation introduced the results of the IPU study on harassment, intimidation and violence against women in parliament, debated later on.
Session 8 dealt with Transforming parliaments for a better future, which focused on the role of parliament in implementing Agenda 2030 and the need for parliaments to transform in order to address present and future challenges.
The summit closed with the Abu Dhabi Declaration, which called upon parliaments worldwide to work together to tackle current and future challenges.
The summit closed after actionable recommendations.
