Culture, Information and Tourism Com.discusses Advertising with Media officials

The Committee of Culture, Information and Tourism of the State Council reviewed on Sunday, with officials of a number of media organizations and advertising companies, proposals regarding the proceeds of advertising in order to increase their contribution to economic growth, within the framework of the Committee’s study on the ‘Organization of Advertisement’.
The Committee hosted at the ninth annual session of the sixth session, headed by Hon. Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Meshaqi, the Head of the Committee officials from the General Authority for Radio and Television, the Oman Press and Publishing and Shabiba newspaper in addition to the representatives of a number of advertising companies.
The committee discussed with officials of the General Authority for Radio and Television the technical standards followed by the authority when approving the broadcast of advertisements-on radio or television-in terms, the community, ethical and legal controls that are shared with the advertiser, and aligning the original entertainment and awareness content and the advertising content. This prevents the advertising side from overshadowing the important aspects, the mechanisms to include advertising between programs and dramas to avoid the viewer complaints of repeated advertisements during and the controls followed in advertisements to prevent harm to children or affect public health and safety in different occupations and the broadcast time of advertisements.
The Committee discussed with the officials of the Oman Press, Publishing and Advertising, Shabiba newspaper and representatives of advertising companies, the proposals to increase efforts to achieve cooperation between the media and advertising agencies, design and advertising to ensure the commitment of the advertiser to the controls and laws. It also discussed the mechanisms of increasing advertising income, especially with digital advertising, and efforts to regulate digital advertising and the possibility of benefiting from it in the development of the advertising market.
It should be noted that the Committee has cited several justifications for studying the "organization of the Advertising ", including the lack of a comprehensive law to regulate advertising in the Sultanate, the multiplicity of bodies that supervise the organization of advertisements, the varying requirements for various types of advertising, as well as the access of the Internet and communication networks in the field of advertising competition.
