The Social Committee hosted Ali Bin Ibrahim Bin Shanoon Araisi, CEO of Oman Charity and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries officials today.
The Social Committee at the State Council hosted Ali Bin Ibrahim Bin Shanoon Araisi, CEO of Oman Charity and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries officials today to enhance the performance of its study, “Developing the Social Security System.” The eighth meeting of the Committee, chaired by Hon.Dr.Hamad bin Sulaiman Al Salmi, head of the Committee was held in the presence of the honorable committee members and a number of Secretariat staff. The hosting aimed to engage the guests in a dialogue and to highlight the aspects that will enrich the study, and note the efforts undertaken in Developing the Social Security System in the Sultanate. The meeting dealt with several topics related to the study. These included the contribution of the General Authority for Charitable Activities within the social security system, the methodology of implementation of the social security system, the effectiveness of the current performance, exploitation of available resources, the mechanisms of monitoring and evaluation, the foundation of distribution of justice, level of coordination and integration of roles with other parties. The committee reviewed the data and statistics related to the current beneficiaries according to the target groups and the annual assistance provided by the Committee, the geographic distribution of the various governorates' quotas, and the expectations regarding the growth of the beneficiary numbers. It also addressed the challenges and obstacles faced by the Committee and proposed solutions, evaluated the performance of the total system of social security in the Sultanate from the point of view of the Committee. It also discussed the future vision of the Omani Authority for Charitable Activities in terms of participation in the development of the social security system in the Sultanate. The Social Committee also hosted a number of officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in the Women's Department of Rural Women Development Department of Coastal Women. The Committee discussed a number of topics related to the contribution of the department to the social security system. It discussed the effectiveness of available resources, mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation, assessment and analysis of social and economic impact, and the basis for equitable distribution among beneficiaries. The Committee addressed the availability of data and statistics on current rural projects and their distribution to the current beneficiaries and their numbers and geographical distribution, and allocations of projects and others until 2020. In addition to discussing the challenges and obstacles facing the work of the Department and the strengthening of its role in the social security system and proposals for solutions, and propose a new amendment or legislation on the subject.
